The 2017 Youth Volunteers are an inspiring group of global changemakers under the age of 18 who will complete a 1 year volunteer program with ISF. Each of the youth below were selected to be a part of this program from their applications describing their passions, talents and why they want to save our Planet and Creatures. Our program mission is to educate and support the rising generations to take action and to inspire hope and change for our planet.
Applications for the following year are available once per year in the fall. Check our Volunteer page to see if the application is currently open.
Watch our 2016 Youth volunteer recap below. Many of these volunteers stayed with us as "Alumni" for 2017 and you can read their biographies below. All Alumni have been volunteering with ISF for 1+ years.
My name is Adriana and I am 6 years old. I was born in Puerto Rico. I am in first grade. My favorite color is blue. I love to take care of animals and plants. I have many pets: four dogs, two birds and a fish. I also have my own garden where so far I have grown tomatoes and peppers. When I grow up I want to be a veterinarian to have my own animal care center.
Hi! My name is Alisandria, Ali for short. I am 13 years old and I live in California. During my free time, I like to watch anime and listen to K-Pop. I am also part of my High School Dance Team where we perform for the school and our community. For as long as I can remember, my greatest passion is to talk about wolves. I took every opportunity available at school to educate my classmates on wolves and how we can help them. I’m very excited about being a part of the 2017 ISF Youth Volunteers and working with other youth to make our world a better place.
Hi! I'm Alyanna, Aly for short! I’m 14 years old and a freshman in high school. I'm a huge lover for animals, especially horses. I have tons of animals at home that I love with all of my heart, my best animal friend being my cat Lucky. She was just a kitten when she lived outside all by herself and lived in a box. She was being attacked by some dogs that were bigger than her until my parents found her, saved her, and gave her a loving home. That's a reason I joined ISF, I can't stand to see animals abandoned and hurt. I believe all animals should be able to have a home where they can be loved and find their own best friend. At my home, we have quite the farm, chickens and ducks running around the yard and a very excited puppy trying to make friends with them. I'm a giant fan of books/reading, video games, music, and anime! I believe with the help of other ISF Youth, we can help the environment and the animals that inhabit it. If we just raise our voice loud enough, everyone would be able to hear us and see us making a change!
My name is Amanda and I'm 16 years old. I live in New Jersey with my Mom, Dad, brother, uncle, two rescued cats, and rescued dog. My cats' names are Jack and Jill and my new puppy's name is Indy. I enjoy soccer, snowboarding, painting, and writing. I'm also a huge fan of "The Vampire Diaries". I'm so excited about working with ISF and using my voice to make a positive change in the world!
Hi! My name is Ananya and I am 14 years old. I am a high school freshman from Michigan! I was born in India and moved to America when I was two. I love watching The Vampire Diaries and of course my favorite character is Damon! I also enjoy listening to music, singing and playing the guitar and ukulele in my free time. I have been vegetarian my whole life but recently decided to become vegan. Being vegan has helped me realize how poorly some animals are treated. Educating kids and teens about veganism is something I am extremely passionate about and would love to do through ISF! Environmental issues are also important to me. One day I hope to travel the world and help people, animals and the planet. I am so grateful I was chosen to be a youth volunteer and be part of such a great organization. I hope this will be a great year :)
My name is Annaliese and I'm in 4th grade. I love animals and nature. My favorite animal is the Fennec fox. I live in Pennsylvania with my family and pets. I have a bunny, two dogs, and three chickens. I like to play field hockey and draw.
Hi, my name is Bailey and I am 16 years old. I’m currently in tenth grade. I live in New Jersey with my family and my dog Derek Jeter. I am so excited to be a part of ISF this year and cannot wait to see what the future holds. Besides going to school and volunteering with ISF, I love watching supernatural shows and movies. I love experimenting with special effects makeup and turning my family and friends into scary and frightening creatures. I am looking forward to helping educate and inform today's youth about how important our environment is not only to us, but all those we share this planet with.
Hello my name is Ellen, I am 15 years old and live just outside London UK with my parents, younger sister and our dog 'Blue' the crazy weimaraner! I am passionate about preserving our environment, saving our wildlife animals and educating others on ways to help save our planet. I also love to sing and use my voice to promote my passions.
Hi, my name is Hailey. I am 16 years old and I live in West Virginia. I am a junior in high school. I am very shy but once I get to know you I’m goofy and opinionated. I have a Blue Merle Australian Shepherd named “Blue”. He has one blue eye and one brown eye. He is very protective of me and follows me everywhere. He even waits for me every day at my bus stop when I get home. I also have an 11 year old sister named Hanna. I have an extreme passion when it comes to animals and the environment. Ever since I was little I’ve loved animals. I have always watched documentaries on all types of animals and my mom told me instead of watching cartoons when I was little I always wanted to watch Animal Planet. I plan on becoming a veterinarian and to foster care animals. I hope to someday start my own animal rescue organization. I love all animals and I go crazy thinking of all the horrible things animals around the world have to go through. I really want to make as much of a difference as I can and to advocate for them. I am so excited to be a part of ISF and to learn and spread awareness in my area. Thank you for selecting me to be a part of this amazing organization and helping me to accomplish my hopes and dreams.
Hi, I’m Jaxon! I’m in second grade. I like saving animals to keep them safe and from becoming endangered. If I find a bug in our house, I even carry him outside to set him free. I want to save our Elephants and stop people from killing them for money. This upsets me and I want to change the way the world treats our wildlife. I don’t like plastic and carry an eco-friendly lunch to school that has no waste. I am trying to get my classmates to do the same and to eat organic foods and less meat. Last year when I met Ian, I just knew that I had to become an ISF Youth Volunteer so I could help teach the world what Ian has taught me. I love ISF and will do my very best. I like to play tennis, X-box, Minecraft, tag, Cub Scouting, swimming, and playing outside with my brothers and friends. I also collect Pokemon cards.
Hi, my name is Logan. I am nine years old and I live in Michigan. I am excited to become an ISF Youth Volunteer because I want to help the world and our environment. I want to help save the whales in our oceans and I want to help make the world a cleaner place. Every season I work with my family to pick up litter and waste in our community to make our planet greener. I want to help bring back our rainforests by teaching people the importance of preserving them because it provides us with oxygen, medicine, combats climate change, and provides habitat for species like birds, monkeys, and lizards. My favorite species is the humpback whale and I’d like to work with ISF to protect them and increase their population numbers. When I’m not protecting Mother Earth I enjoy eating pizza, playing football, swimming, reading, writing, drawing, playing outside with my brothers, watching Friends, beating my brothers at Monopoly, and cuddling with my rescued kitties Jacob and Sam. Thank you ISF for giving me the opportunity to be the hero nature needs.
Hi, my name is Mandi and I live in Florida. I am 13 years old and have a lot of causes that I volunteer and stay busy with. I run my own not for profit online charity that has been helping those less fortunate for the last 7 years called #MandisBackpack; encouraging people to step up in communities and donate school supplies to help bridge the gap between income and education. I am also a Senior level Girl Scout and love making an impact through completing “Take Action” projects to bring awareness to causes around my community. I have a lot of organizations that depend on my contribution in volunteering but I'm not looking to slow down!I love animals! My ultimate goal is to become a Veterinarian specializing in Big Cats and living on a wildlife conservation in South Africa! I cannot wait to begin my journey with ISF!! I want to be able to help animals just as much, if not more, than I've been able to help people. I don't have a lot of down time; but when I do...music, drawing, and gaming (Pokémon!!) are my favorite ways to relax. I'm a super fan of Pentatonix. I love listening to their amazing arrangements while creating something. I draw a lot of Anime and animals of course. I look forward to an amazing year!
My name is Mya. I am 10 years old, live in Indiana and I LOVE ANIMALS!! I love to help animals when they are sick or hurt, I wanted to be in ISF because they help animals and help kids learn how to help animals and each other. ISF people are so nice and there isn’t any bullying. Bullying is so mean! I have a lot of passions! I love to dance and sing! I can’t wait to go on adventures and have fun with ISF! Bye, bye!!
Hi! I’m Nate. I am a very active six year old living in Canada. I love sharks and other ocean animals. I want to be a shark biologist when I grow up because I want to study and protect these beautiful creatures. I love to travel, especially to places where I can spend time in the ocean. I care a lot about the environment, particularly water conservation. I am also an Earth Ranger. I am excited to be a part of ISF!
My name is Piper, I am 10 years old, in the 5th grade and live in Ohio.
I believe everyone has a voice, can make a difference regardless of how young they are and everybody is creative in their own way. I feel everyone should be able to express themselves in forms such as music, dress, art, sports, and writing. I have been on student council for the past 2 years at my school. I love all things fashion and animals, especially dogs. I have 2 pit mixes and they are the best dogs ever. Being an animal advocate is my passion.
I volunteer with my mom at a local non-profit rescue called All About The Paw that specializes in finding homes for dogs. What is so special about these dogs that I LOVE and that I want to be the voice of is that the dogs are in their foster homes until they find their forever home. These dogs are ones pulled from shelters that are at risk of euthanasia because of their breed, age, have medical issues and/or behavioral issues.
In the county we I live, one of the cities close to me is in the process of enforcing their BSL, specifically for Pit Bulls. The law has been there for years, but never really enforced until recently. My passion is to work on getting BSL stopped not only where I live but all over the world. I might only be 10 but I understand that breed specific legislation needs to stop. Last year in 4th grade I spoke to classmates and teachers about pitties and how they are a misunderstood breed. I work hard getting people to understand that pitties are not bad dogs because of what breed they are. Dogs are bad because of how we as humans treat/raise them. There are no bad breeds, just dogs (any breed) not raised correctly.
I think being part of ISF Youth is a wonderful opportunity because I feel that even though we might be young, we can make a difference if given the education, guidance and chance.
Hi! My name is Ximena. I am 14 years old and I live in Mexico. I am an Irish dancer and am learning to play the guitar. I like taking photos, reading, drawing, writing, traveling, and obviously I love nature. The best thing for me is to get to be outdoors in the sun with a book and good music. When I grow up I want to be a marine biologist, a physical engineer, or a National Geographic photographer. I want a world in which all humans respect nature and what it gives to us. I am really looking forward to what we´ll do this year!!
My name is Vanessa, I am 11 years old. I live in New York. This is my third year with ISF. I am hoping we can have something here in NY and all my friends will volunteer. We have a lot of green, health conscious, animal activist here and we can use them and their outlets. I have a friend that takes in hurt animals (bat, foxes, Eagles) gets them better and they releases them in their proper environment.
I have learned so much from everyone and pass that knowledge along to others.
Hi, my name is Rylyn! I am a Youth Alumni and I have been apart of the Ian Somerhalder Foundation for almost 4 years now! I live in Texas and my favorite pass times include riding horses and singing! I am a representative on the Environmental Board at my school and have been apart of environmental groups almost all of my life. I am nearing my 8th month as a vegetarian and I would never have been able to come to this place in my life if I had never met all of these amazing people whom I love dearly. Hi! My name is Chloe and I'm 16 years old. I love learning about people, their interests, and how to make a positive change in the world. I am extremely passionate about social Issues and about how to make everyone feel accepted in a society that often invalidates other's differences. I joined ISF in order to be more involved in making the voice of a younger generation heard and to be involved in such a positively influential organization.
Dylan here, and I’m an ISF Youth Volunteer Alumni. I live in the great state of Michigan, where whitetail deer roam free and coyotes howl at night. When I’m not busy being the change I want to see in our world, I enjoy working on cars, especially classic cars (like the ‘69 Camaro on The Vampire Diaries), and enjoy cruising in my Grandfather’s ’68 Camaro. I am a second degree Black Belt in Tang Soo Do and am working toward my Eagle Scout rank in Boy Scouts. I also enjoy running track, playing video games, and hanging out with my family. I have two dogs named Magnum and Marley, and three cats named Josie, Sam, and Jacob who we rescued. I’ve met the most amazing friends who not only share my love and passion for protecting our environment, but have also become part of my family. I’m excited for this year and can’t wait to see what awesome change we create together that our planet and its creatures deserve. Let’s rock this!

I've done research and created content like articles, videos, and artwork for the ISF. I've been so honored to be a member of the ISF Family and I have been able to further my passion for the environment because through working in the ISF youth division I have learned so much about our beautiful planet and the amazing creatures that live on it and why it's so important to protect it for our future generations.
Hi my name is Johanna, Jojo for my friends, I am 11 years old and I live in Texas. I love drawing, reading and animals. I want to help save the environment and make the world a better place. I want to use my voice to make a difference.
I’m Theresa. This is my second year with ISF and I am so excited to see what’s in store for 2017. I am 12 years old and I live in Oregon. I am very connected to nature. Having spoken with several experts, they feel that I can communicate with animals and hear the voices of trees. Some people call it crazy, but others call me an “old soul.” I am also an artist. I sold my first painting when i was 9 and I also love writing music and stories and singing and I do fashion design and jewelry making too. You can always find me with a good book in my hands. I have quite a collection in my room.

Hi, I’m Sydney. I’m 11. I live in Georgia, USA which is in the southeastern part of the US. I know some people don’t like snakes, but I asked my parents for one when I was 4! Animals of all types fascinate me. They are all such beautiful creatures. I don’t know why some people are afraid of snakes, sharks, bats, etc., because I wanted a snake when I was 4, I want to swim with sharks when I grow up, and always listen for the bats’ silent whispers in the night. I volunteer at a horse rescue, but don’t be fooled by horse rescue, there are donkeys, chickens, ducks, a turkey, a rat snake, miniature ponies, mustangs, dogs, feral cats, pigs, sheep, goats, and a cow!!! I love being outside touching the soft grass and listening to the birds’ wonderful songs. I also love sea life! I still don’t know if I’m going to be a vet or a marine biologist. I love the ocean so much that I tried to be a mermaid! I always love to take pictures of the environment, and I have taken some really good ones. This will be my second-year volunteering for ISF, and I hope that we do a lot of cool things for the environment and animals!

I am 10 years old I am really excited about being apart of ISF. One of my favorite things about ISF is that no matter what age you are. You have the power to make a change in humans and animals lives.

Seeing trash on the ground and on the ocean shore is 1 of my biggest pet peeves, so I do my part to clean it up once a month! Keep it clean, be green!
Hi I am Eoghan, pronounced "Owen". I am 8 years old and I live in Oregon. My family recently adopted a puppy named Halo from a shelter, which has made me so passionate about helping animals find forever homes. I love all animals even reptiles like my bearded dragon Stitch. I would love to do more to help animals who need food and homes.
