Winter 2016 Youth Book Club Selections

It is time for the final selections for the Youth Book Club for 2016. We hope you have enjoyed the books we have chosen so far, and we look forward to bringing you even more great reads in 2017!

FOR TEENS:

This quarter we are featuring Life of Pi by Yann Martel.

You may have seen the movie that was based off of this book, but we want to dig deeper into this tale with you.  Pi Patel is adrift at sea in a 26 foot life boat with a tiger, and he struggles to survive and make sense of life and the beyond in this clever story.

FOR YOUTH:

For our youth selection we are going to be reading The Fourteenth Goldfish by Jennifer L. Holm.

In this thought provoking story, Ellie Cruz’s mom brings home Ellie's scientist grandfather who has reversed his aging process and is now a teenager. Ellie begins to explore her love of science and with her grandfather she explores the possibilities of science and where we draw the line.

FOR THE KIDDOS:

As always we have two young reader selections for you this quarter.

The first is Itsy Bitsy and Teeny Weeny by Robbyn Smith van Frakenhuyzen.

This is the story of an abandoned fawn and an orphaned lamb who are raised together at an animal rehabilitation center.  The book is beautifully illustrated and a heart warming tale.

The second selection is Secrets of the Garden: Food Chains and the Food Web in Our Backyard by Kathleen Weidner Zoehfeld.  Secrets of the Garden explores one family’s garden from Spring planting through Fall harvest.

This book is a great way to explore the idea of gardening before or while starting your own backyard garden.
