Are you interested in helping out animals in your area? Don't know where to start? Don't know how to start? Will your helping actually do anything for your neighborhood pets? Well I'm here to help.
Let's start with that last question. Not sure little old you will actually do any good? Well let me clarify that for you...it will...tremendously. From the smallest things to the largest. For instance, does your local grocery store have a place where you can buy dog or cat food and donate it to the local animal shelter? You might think you are not really helping, or that it might not do much or anything at all. But everything has to eat and helping out in this small way may actually be one of the most helpful things that you can do. It's also great to do this if you can't volunteer your time to the shelter; you are still helping the animals, and feeding them is one of the most important things you can do for them. By donating food you are not only assuring that the animal will be well fed and happy, but you are also helping to leave some money in the budget of the shelter to buy or fix things that are needed. This is also a good start to bigger and more helpful things you can do for the animals in your area.
Do you have time to volunteer? Depending on your life and its schedule, you may or may not be able to volunteer. But if you can this is also a good way to help. By walking the animals, playing with them, and giving them the love that they deserve, you are helping them out a lot. The more time you can volunteer the better, but if you can only do one day a month you are still helping them, even if it doesn't seem like it to you. By seeing these animals and talking about them with family and friends this may lead to some of the animals getting adopted. It may also lead to your family and friends getting involved and helping the shelter. The little things we do today can have a big impact on what happens tomorrow. So whatever time you have to help...use it to not only your's but also the animal's advantage as well.
Already doing what's above? Try organizing an adoption fair or a fundraiser. Turn your ideas into actions. It's not enough to be idea generators; we have to act and participate. If we don't nothing will get done. You might not realize it but the simplest things that you do can really impact both you and the animal's life. By simply helping out you can realize the potential that lies within you. When volunteering you might realize that you want to do more to help these animals or any animal around the world. You might become a veterinarian, an animal activist, or an animal or marine biologist (let's not forget our little water friends).
The possibilities are endless--you just have to get up and do something; nothing is out of the question, and the sky IS NOT the limit. Dare to dream, dare to change....we have to, we need to for the better of everything.
